Here are the thoughts and experiences of Jordan Preston. Jordan Preston has been an absolute blessing to our business and we will miss her deeply. Jordan recently left our little ol’ company to go on to a bigger and better calling, college, and we fully support her in this wonderful decision.
Jordan wrote the following about Pure Hearts & Clean Hands Soap Co.
“What I learned from working in a natural soap shop…
There’s so much more to it than I ever imagined. The company that employed me, Pure Hearts & Clean Hands, had recently discovered that there were toxins in the soap they were using. Then, the owner of this company, Adam McPherson, did further research and began producing lotion bars, toothpaste, lip balm, deodorant, shampoo bars, perfumes, cosmetics and tons more, all of which were made solely of natural ingredients. At first, these products were used just by the McPherson family, but they began selling their products and have become, what I consider, one of the very best natural handmade soap companies ever!
Even though a large portion of my summer was spent at work, it never felt like “work”. I felt like I was helping out at my other house with my other family. They accepted me and encouraged me to grow spiritually and mentally. They were generous, kind, and patient with me. I am so grateful that I was able to meet such wonderful people; they really did change my life.
So about what I learned. Since Adam had done so much research, he knew a lot about soap. He taught me about commercial products and the toxins that they mix in with their ingredients. He showed me how to make a perfectly smooth lotion bar, how to cut the soap and trim it give it that rounded-edge look, and he also showed me how to edit a website!
I never imagined I would be 1) hired by a natural soap maker and 2) editing his new website. The second half of my summer was spent editing what Adam had written, and writing descriptions for every single product that Pure Hearts & Clean Hands. This was not easy or quick; it took weeks to finish because PHCH Soap Co. produces so many different products now. But, being an English major, I loved this! I was getting paid to use my brain and not just my hands. I could actually apply what I learned from that awful Grammar class to real life!
I also learned that wealth has nothing to do with money. You can own the world and be the poorest, emptiest person inside. The McPhersons are very humble people; something I admire very much. They have discovered that when you live life with an open hand and open heart, the Lord will bless you. They never take credit for any of their accomplishments, and their humility has been and will continue to be rewarded.
Faith, prayer, and hard work will get you far in life. Simplicity is best. It is a proven fact that people that use natural products on their skin and consume naturally grown food are healthier than those who don’t.”
