A common question we hear is “Why should I buy your handcrafted soap when I can get more soap for less money at the grocery store?” Well, we have several reasons. First, the commercial soaps offered at most chain stores are full of chemical additives that dry out your skin, lead to rashes and other irritations, and have been proven to be harmful to your health. The commercial soap bars that line most grocery stores’ shelves should not legally be called “soap” because, in reality, they are just dangerous detergents. While synthetic detergents are great for your dishes, they are absolutely horrible for your skin.
If a commercial soap company does use some natural, healthy ingredients in their soap bar, they do so in such small quantities that they provide next to zero benefits. They do this to advertise that their soap contains natural ingredients, thereby catching the eye of the ignorant consumer and making a sale. However, the ingredient labels say otherwise; their soap is still primarily artificial chemicals. Over time, these commercial soaps will make your skin either excessively dry or oily, and never feeling really clean. The reason your skin will lose moisture is because commercialized soap removes the natural occurring glycerin from their soap. Our natural handmade soap can restore the moisture to your skin, while still getting you clean. You will be amazed at the difference of our natural soap compared to the average commercialized soap bar!
Pure Hearts & Clean Hands makes soap made with simple ingredients that are actually good for your skin. In the handcrafted soap making process, oils and fats are combined with lye to produce soap and glycerin. All soap bars are made with lye. When made correctly, there is no lye remaining in the final bar of soap. Lye must be used to make the soap, but there should never be any remaining lye in the final bar to hurt the skin. Once the process of saponification is complete, all of the lye and oil molecules have completely combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin. Also, many of our natural soaps also contain butters and other oils to increase the moisturizing effect of the soap and herbs and other natural items for an exfoliant. We use slightly more oil resulting in a soap that is more moisturizing for your skin to ensure that all of the lye is used up in the curing process. Pure handmade soap cleanses the skin while its glycerin moisturizes it. Glycerin is naturally produced during the soap making process. It actually costs more than soap itself, which is the reason most many commercial soap companies remove the glycerin from the soap and sell it to manufacturers of lotion, cosmetics, and other bath and body products. We recognize the many skin benefitting properties that glycerin provides, so we do not remove it from any of our soap bars. With our handcrafted soap you get a fabulous cleanser and a moisturizer all in one!
